Edgar Renteria has hit safely in each of the season's first six games and compiled a .370 batting average. He hit his first homer of the season in Friday night's third inning.

"Edgar has had the best at-bats of anybody," Cox said. "He's right on everything. He's got a great approach to hitting."

Earlier this week, Renteria recorded his 1,600th career hit. Since the start of his first full season in 1997, he has recorded more hits (1,470) than any other shortstop.

While Renteria was compiling a .269 batting average during Grapefruit League play, he was constantly drawing praise from Cox.

"He only hit .270 in the spring and it looked like he hit .600 because every swing was just beautiful," Cox said.
