DENVER -- Edgar Renteria got another day of rest on Sunday. Look out, Astros.
Renteria, who was slumping for a good bit of September, has been torrid for the last week or so. The All-Star shortstop went 6-for-12 in his first three games after receiving two days off at the beginning of the week. On the Cardinals' current road trip, he's 9-for-17 (.529).
"I feel good," he said. "I feel more strong now. That's the difference. I'm not dragging the bat. When you're tired, you drag the bat. You're not in position. Now I feel good. That's what I think is the difference."
Renteria would have to go on an almost impossibly hot streak over the season's final week to get his batting average to .300, but he's still pleased to be coming around.
"It's nice," he said. "You try to get hot at the right time, close to the playoffs. That's when you need to get hot."
