Renteria Returns

Still moving a little slowly and speaking softly, Edgar Renteria returned to the Cardinals' lineup on Wednesday after battling a nasty stomach illness. Renteria watched Tuesday night's game from his hotel room -- or at least most of it, as he was still feeling ill and drifting off to sleep at times.

The All-Star shortstop said he first started feeling ill overnight after Monday night's game. He said he felt "a little bit" better by Wednesday and decided to try to play.

By game time he had continued to improve, and he showed it with a grand slam off Mark Prior. Renteria was removed in the eighth inning in favor of Hector Luna.

"It was hard. When I passed the first three innings, I said, 'Man, I don't know. I hope we can take a lead so I can get out.' We took a lead and I got out of the game."
