Renteria Nears Rare Feat

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Edgar Renteria could become only the second shortstop in NL history to have 200 hits and 100 RBIs in the same season. The last to do so was Pittsburgh's Honus Wagner, who had 201 hits and 109 RBIs in 1908.
After getting four hits and five RBIs on Thursday, Renteria went hitless Friday in an 8-1 loss to Houston. He needs four RBIs to reach the century mark and needs 13 hits over the final seven games to reach 200.
"It means something because it's not something that happens every day," Renteria said. "It's not easy for a guy who is not a power hitter to get 100 RBIs, and I'm not a power hitter. And it's not something that I can do every year, so I take a chance this year and see if I can do it."
