Renteria Scuffling

Edgar Renteria entered Thursday night's game in a bit of a slump, going 0-for-13 over the past three games. La Russa is pondering giving the star shortstop a day off. But with the Cardinals facing a string of left-handed starting pitchers, the skipper is finding it hard to take Renteria out of the lineup.
"It looks to me like he may be a tad tired," La Russa said. "His swing may be a little longer. We'll see. We've got four left-handers, and he kills left-hand pitching.
"I'd rather rest him against somebody with the Giants. But if he really looks like he needs a day, maybe even Sunday afternoon."
Renteria made the decision look good early on Thursday, doubling home a run in the second inning against Reds southpaw Jimmy Anderson.
