CLEVELAND (AP) -- Edgar Renteria hopes to shine in the World Series, mainly for the fans back home in Colombia.
"In Colombia, there's never been a player play in the World Series," the Florida Marlins shortstop said before Monday's workout at Jacobs Field. "And now all of Colombia is following me, all of Colombia is supporting me."
Renteria was 2-for-8 in the first two games with a double and an RBI.
"What I'd like to see is that all the youngsters follow the baseball and pick up the baseball, and there will be more baseball played by the youngsters in Colombia," he said.
Unlike neighboring Venezuela, baseball isn't the No. 1 sport in Colombia.
"There's too many great soccer players that come out of Colombia, too many to count. I'd be counting forever," he said. "Baseball players, about one comes out every 10 years, so you have to realize I have to take advantage of that opportunity and enjoy it and show what I've got."
